ATSM Challenge 60

Hi Everybody,

how time flies, it’s Wednesday again and time for another challenge at Addicted to Stamps and More, Challenge #60 – Photo Inspiration.

Our sponsor this week is ….  Nicecrane Designs,

The winner will receive a $20 gift certificate to spend at their online store. Pop over to the shop and have a look what fabulous images $20 can buy you …

… and the photo to take your inspiration from is …

As you can see lots of scope there. The whole image has a CAS feel about it, especially as it is a sort of monochrome grey apart from the red lighthouse. There is also a seaside feel to it, which reminds me of Sue’s card from last week’s CAS challenge. I can also take inspiration from there being water and the grass of the dunes. The lighthouse also looks like an old-fashioned vintage type. Well that’s my inspiration so far. As I couldn’t take all of these into account, I decided to go with water, grass and colour scheme on some of my projects.

I have two Nicecrane images I decided on and had a play with. Here they are:

The first one is from the Fascinating Bessie Gutmann Set …

girl on Leaf I

As you can see the image has lots of detail on it, hence I went for a grey CAS background. I pasted the image file into a Word document re-sized it and lightened the grey scale a bit before printing. I ten coloured the girls dress in red using Sepctrum Noir Markers and added some light grey touches to other bits of the image using a cool grey1 Promarker Pen before blending the edges with red and assembling the card as shown.

In my next card I used the same image, but went for a more vintage feel …

gril on leaf II

This image is printed in the original colour. I then added some soft colour touches to the girl’s dress and hair, the daisies, the butterfly, the grasses and the water using pale hues of Spectrum Noir Markers. I then stamped the swirl and sentiment on so saffron designer paper (SU) and blended the edges with soft suede ink (SU) before matting and layering as shown.

The next image I used is from the Dolls of Japan Safe Pack set

Japanese Lady II

For this card I simply added some red and grey to the dress, a touch of grey as a shadow, blush for the skin and some pastel beige to the umbrella before simply layering it on textured grey and red card as shown.

On to my next card for which I used the same image. This time I didn’t do any colouring in, all I did was adding some grey to the background, again using the Word picture tool option. After cutting I edged the image with black ink and layered it on red pearlised card. I then tore some strips of Washi Tape and positioned them on silvery card before layering on my cream coloured base card. I the finished off with some further black edging, adding a sentiment and black ribbon. To edge my silvery card I simply used my black Stamp’n’Write Marker and a ruler to draw a line on my base card as close as possible to my silvery card, which had one of those smooth surfaces unsuitable for dye ink.

Just to fill you in a bit but keeping it short, Ignacio from Nicecrane Designs sources his images (as far as I am aware through the proper chanels with licences etc) and then works on them to a standard that people can buy them and craft with them.  Hours of work go into the images before they are released for sale.  They are not just taken from a website and then resold.  The print out quality of the images is fantastic.  I am just blown away by them. These are Florence’s words, but they’re also true for me.
Nicecrane Designs are based in Cadiz in Southern Spain.

He has lots of images to choose from. You’ll always find one to suit the occasion. The pre-coloured images are very detailed and print out beautifully. The ones for colouring yourself are very easy to work with, especially shading for added depth is made very easy. The card from my Summer Days Post won me a prize in a competition run by the Quick Cards Made Easy Magazine. This is how easy it is to achieve great results using Nicecrane Designs images.
Sorry I know, I have been going on a bit, but I just love his work!!!
